August/September 2004 Now in our thirteenth year. www.Bdarn.com

Welcome to the August/September issue of Bird Dog & Retriever
News. I have had a month from hell. It started with my trusty
cell phone going on the fritz. The only replacement I was offered
can do a thousand things, I just wish it functioned well as a
phone. It seems to be missing calls, if it doesn't get better
it WILL be used for fish bait real soon. Boyt Harness one of
my largest suppliers for Guldans.com burned to the ground while
we had pending orders, thank god they were up and running within
a few days. But more thrilling was the losing the entire August/September
issue two days before our annual family vacation. I was able
to save the text and pictures, but I needed to reformat every
page... over two weeks worth of work. So albeit late here is
the August/September issue.
Welcome our subscribers and advertisers. Also for the first time
in about five years we are again on newstands. A lot of you requested
it and thanks to Mike Reagan, our newstand guy, we hope to have
national distribution within a year. If you have a favorite sport
shop that would like to carry it, have them get a hold of us,
we'll see what we can do.
So what's in this issue? During our "working vacation"
we went down to see the "Vizsla Guru" Jim Busch for
the IL Vizsla Double Bubble days, I have a photo montage of the
day. Dave Duffey walks through simple Gun Dog Guidelines as only
the master can. Last year over a hundred dogs died from heat
stroke in South Dakota. I offer to you TWO articles on dogs and
the heat. One from a Vet Joe Spoo, who will be doing a regular
vet column for us. And a second from Bill Dillion one of the
best trainers in all of South Dakota. Both have an interesting
angle so this year, let's not kill anymore dogs.
Jerry Thoms tells us about that great dog we all knew of that
came from a questionable past. I walk you through the pointer
senior hunt test program. A path I maybe walking for the next
year or two. David Krassler talks us through advanced Water Blinds.
And this issue I'll introduce you to Tony Roettgers, if your
running springers you probably know the name, if not you should
he's one of the great trainers to be found. With the season a
few weeks away Justin Kromminga takes us Timberdoodle hunting
with him. And for our featured book we offer to you Steve Rafes
"Training Your Dog For Bird Work."
That's about it for now, I'm again sorry this issue was a week
or so late, just means the next one will come to your door even
sooner. And by the way, the jokes on the last page, are some
of the best I have seen in a while.
Lets go running dogs....
