What is the difference between a good dog and a great one?
I have know a lot of dogs good and bad I don't know about great. Great
is in the eyes of the beholder. The longer I own hunting dogs the more I
expect so I look at my current dog. He is the best most well trained
hunting dog I have ever trained or hunted behind. He is on the border of
greatness. People that hunt with him have told me he is great and they
always wan't to know how to get a pup.
What I think I would call greatness now is a dog that can step into a
field trial and finish maybe not win but finish. Then go to a master
hunt test and get a ribbon. Next go to a field or water and provide a
experience that is pleasing and enjoyable to the handeler and other
gunners.
Some would stop at the trialing or testing but I think a great dog
should be more than a dog game winner. The dog should prove it's worth
on wild birds in front of other hunters.
A GREAT DOG IS LIKE CREAM THEY ARE ALWAYS FOUND ON TOP.
