Saturday I ordered 2 books. Training the Versatile Hunting Retriever for Upland Hunting by Terrant ( I think his name is---not familiar with his methods but was curious enough to order it) and Mikes' Training Spaniels and Retrievers by Roebuck.

Doc, I am a little foggy on the behavior required on the scent issue for Retrievers. I understand and can see the sit to flush would be relatively easy to train. And release on their name not on shot--haven't broken any rules yet. Just let the dog run amok flushing birds? Looks like I have some reading to do. I'll check into the Wolters book--last time I looked at one it was written a long time ago and I by-passed them for what I thought may be newer methods. I go back and look.
