: At what age can you start using an
: electronic collar to train your dog?
: I have a six month old pup is that too young?
Most of the time I wait until I have completed force fetch before starting with the E-collar.
Remember to teach new commands to the dog first, then re-enforce them with the collar. The collar is only used to correct the dog for refusing a well understood command or concept.
At six months of age the dog is old enough to begin collar conditioning. Follow the instructions to determine the required level to get your dogs attention. Then pick one command, I usually start with "sit". Correct with the collar ONLY FOR SIT, we'll add other commands later. Give the sit command and then a bump with the collar. The Idea is that the dog will try to sit on command fast enough to avoid the correction. Use the collar to correct ONLY for refusals to sit. When this command is refined, Pick another, and use the collar to correct ONLY for that command.
